Job Description
Strengthening and empowering all of the communities we serve.
Health Care Reporter: Education & Quality of Life
PennLive — Pennsylvania’s most‑read local news site for six years running — is seeking a dynamic, data‑driven enterprise reporter to investigate the health care, education and quality‑of‑life issues that shape communities across the state.
This role is for a journalist with sharp instincts and curiosity — someone who sees trends before they break, asks tough questions and turns quick hits into impactful, deeply reported stories that drive understanding and accountability.
What you’ll do:
Break news on major statewide issues and follow it with enterprise reporting that reveals what readers truly need to know.
Use data, documents and public records to uncover patterns, inequities and systemic problems.
Translate complex topics into clear, engaging and accessible journalism.
Work across formats — written stories, visuals, social media, video and more — to reach audiences where they are.
Deliver reporting that is timely, authoritative and built for a digital audience.
The base salary range is $50,000 to $65,000 per year.
What we’re looking for:
Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or a related field or equivalent experience
A minimum of two years of journalism experience with a proven ability in reporting and writing.
A strong track record of enterprise and investigative reporting.
Comfort working with data and incorporating it meaningfully into stories.
Excellent news judgment and the ability to balance speed with depth.
Clean, conversational writing that keeps readers engaged from start to finish.
This position will be located in the Harrisburg, PA and/or surrounding area.
This job requires reliable transportation to meet sources and cover breaking news in the field.
If you thrive on competition, live for exclusives, and can help readers, viewers and listeners understand not just what’s happening, but why it matters, this job is for you.
If you excel in a fast‑paced digital newsroom, love finding the story behind the story, and bring urgency and ambition to your reporting, we want to hear from you.
Please upload samples of your best work or a list of story links when you apply.
